In Isaiah 9:6 we see four descriptive names for Messiah that reveal His character: “And His name will be calledWonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” This title “Everlasting Father” is an interesting one. The Messiah is God’s Son and is distinguished in the Trinity from the Father. So how can the Son be the Father? Well, Jesus, being the second Person of the Trinity, is in very essence, God. He has all the attributes of God including eternality. God is One who exists in three Persons. Therefore, Messiah is God. And Jesus was the perfect God-Man. God taking on flesh is known as the Incarnation and it’s the reason we celebrate Christmas. When Jesus arrived in Bethlehem, He came as a helpless baby (fully human) and yet He was also fully divine. At Christmas, we not only remember Christ’s amazing birth, but His extraordinary life, His sacrificial death, His victorious resurrection, andHis glorious exaltation toheaven.And these are not just stories but historical events that were witnessed by others.
