Perhaps they felt He should have helped them bail the water out which was now threatening to sink the small fishing boat. But when He finally rose, He stood facing the wind and the waves. He spoke two words, and the raging storm and suddenly retreated like a dog rebuked by it’s master. The men whispered to one another saying, “Who is this man?” 56 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. COLOSSIANS 1 : 15-16 “ In his letter to the Colossians, Paul introduces Jesus as the creator, the One through whom all things came into being. He designed everything and He directs everything. This is the same Jesus who became a part of His creation and lived among his creatures, the same Jesus who called the disciples, the same Jesus who after an exhausting day of ministry, fell asleep in the boat. Until this point, the disciples knew him as “Teacher.” But, in the aftermath of the storm, they would be forced to reckon with Him as the Lord, the Mighty God who commands creation. Who is this man? Who talks to nature like it’s a child? Who has the power to rebuke the wind and the waves, and it listens?
