When you finish the Wayside Chapel Leadership Residency Program you will have your Master of Arts in Christian Leadership degree from Dallas Theological Seminary and will have two years of applied ministry experience in a large, multi-staff church. As a part of this residency, you will be given opportunities to learn and immediately apply a plethora of ministry skills, such as speaking, leading, handling difficult conversations, and growing in your walk with God and capacity as a ministry leader through this real-world leader lab as you experience the joys and challenges of ministry.
The Master of Arts in Christian Leadership degree from Dallas Theological Seminary costs approximately $36,000. We are committed to paying half of that, investing $18,000 in tuition assistance for each Wayside Chapel Leadership Resident, with each resident being responsible for the remaining cost of tuition. During your time as a Wayside Chapel Leadership Resident, you will also be paid $1,500 per month (pre-tax) over the 22-month duration of the program, and be provided a laptop computer.
Additional costs necessary for living expenses or tuition should be covered by the student. Financial aid options can be discussed with DTS
The Residency Program is best suited for recent college graduates who are committed to attending seminary and pursuing vocational ministry with their degrees. The Residency Program is in partnership with DTS, so all entrance requirements, including previous completion of a 4-year undergraduate degree must be met. See the DTS Admission Requirements.
Residents will work 20 hours per week at Wayside Chapel in all of the various ministry areas, with a concentration in the area of most interest:
- Wayside Kids (infants – 5th grade)
- Echo Student Ministry (6th – 12th grade)
- Young Adults (singles 20s – 30s)
- 55 Plus
- Connect Ministry
- Tech & Media
We want the residency program to be small and intimate — five people are expected.
The program begins in August 2021 and follows the DTS calendar.
Residents are responsible for finding their own housing in the San Antonio area.
The Residency Program is tailored specifically for the Masters in Christian Leadership degree through DTS, where the students will receive credit for their Wayside Chapel work and courses. Since it is a 22-month program and the students are in a cohort together, participation in this program would typically require you to have less than 15 hours of the introductory biblical and theological studies to align with the program. If you’re interested in pursuing your degree through DTS, we can explore your admission to the Residency Program based on your individual circumstances. You would be required to complete all the required Leadership Experience classes and work with DTS to manage what other credits might apply towards this degree plan.
Yes. However, you would be required to complete the five Wayside Chapel courses over the 22-month period. Additional courses can be taken in addition to the program or after the program is completed and will require working with DTS to manage the specifics on your coursework. Tuition for courses beyond the MACL offered through Wayside Chapel Leadership Residency will be the responsibility of the student.
